Kayleen - our inspiration

Kayleen was first diagnosed with AML Leukemia on March 8, 2012, when she was just 8 years old.  She was hospitalized for most of the next 6 months; the treatment for this type of leukemia is intense.  After 4 rounds of chemotherapy and lots of hard work, Kayleen was declared fully in remission and off treatment in August.  She eagerly returned to school and friends.

On December 18th, 2012 Kayleen and her family received the devastating news that the leukemia had returned. On December 26th, Kayleen returned to the hospital for more chemotherapy in the hopes of putting the leukemia back into remission so that she could receive a bone marrow transplant.

After three more rounds of chemotherapy and an experimental medication, the leukemia was still strong, and there was no more to be done.  On April 9th, 2013, Kayleen was sent home to hospice care. She spent her last days with friends and family soaking up as much love as could be. On May 3, 2013, after reassuring her family she would look over them from heaven, Kayleen peacefully, without pain, and surrounded by her family, took her last breath.

While this journey has been hard for Kayleen's family, the support they received has meant the world to them.  You all have shown them over and over the very best of humanity.  Out of gratitude, and to honor their daughter, Kayleen's family, together with dear friends, created this foundation.  The mission is to support nonprofit organizations that assist children with cancer and their families.
